Habits – Your Anchor in the Storm

Hey,
Life has a way of testing us when we least expect it. Recently, my family and I
faced the stress and uncertainty of Hurricane Milton. We found ourselves
standing in the shadow of losing our home, with cherished memories like
family photos and heirlooms at risk.

The days leading up to the storm were filled with anxiety, and when the
winds finally died down, the fear of the “what if’s” lingered. I thought we
were out of the woods, but what followed caught me by surprise.
With no power at home, cooking wasn’t an option.

Our routine was completely thrown off, and I hadn’t worked out in
over a week. My body was sore, my eating was all over the place,
and mentally, I felt completely overwhelmed. Depression started
creeping in as everything felt out of control.

It was in this moment that I realized something: I needed to get back to the basics.
What saved me from sinking deeper wasn’t some grand plan or breakthrough
moment. It was my habits. Habits are your discipline in times of chaos, your north
star when everything else seems off course.

Slowly but surely, I stuck to the habits I’d built over time, and I felt the shift.
Things didn’t turn around overnight, but they started to stabilize. My mood
improved. My body felt better. The fog began to lift.

Here’s what I learned:

life is unpredictable. Storms—both literal and figurative—are going to come your way,
and they may throw you off course. But it’s the habits you build now, in times of calm,
that will carry you through those storms. They don’t have to be perfect. They just
need to be consistent.

If you're going through something tough right now, or even if you're just feeling
stuck, remember this: Go back to the basics. Focus on the small habits that keep
you grounded. They’re your anchor when everything else is blowing in the wind.

Stay strong, and let your habits guide you.

Onward and upward!
